SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT

A Locus A-MLC system environment is described below:

A-MLC is a self-contained network element, physically implemented in a 19” rack, and connects to IP- and SS7 networks as described here.

Client Applications (Mobile Location Services such as “Friend Finder”) connect to A-MLC using standard Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) MLP protocol. The connections are secured and access to the internal network is protected by a firewall. Connecting clients are authenticated before granting access to positioning information.

Privacy Database is a database or information system containing detailed privacy profiles of users. A-MLC authorises all location requests from the Privacy Database. This is an optional feature, as this functionality is often implemented within the Client Applications.

Charging System receives charging information in the form of CDR data files, which can be used in mediation, charging and billing systems for charging based on location requests. This is an optional feature, as the usage of services may be charged on Client Application usage level e.g. with premium SMS access to the application.

Cell Database contains the up-to-date configuration information of the network, specifically information on cells such as location of sites and antenna bearings. Cell Database integration is mandatory for A-MLC.

Core Network (HLR, MSC/VLR) provides the measurement information for location calculation. A-MLC communicates with HLR and MSC/VLR to page the phone (when in idle mode) and to retrieve E-CGI information.
