FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

Locus A-MLC is a fully featured mobile positioning system. The solution includes a high accuracy GSM network positioning capability for building and running Mobile Location Services.

Locus A-MLC provides a GSM standard compliant way to locate subscribers in a very efficient manner. MAP based procedures and network load optimisation guarantee the unique functionality to meet needs in demanding operator environments.

The primary location accuracy is based on Enhanced Cell Global Identity (E-CGI) information. In order to get the best accuracy, advanced probability models are used to combine network measurement data with other information such as geographical maps and collected statistical data from the network. This functionality improves the location accuracy by up to 80%, enabling the implementation of services such as security applications that require a very high accuracy of positioning.

Locus A-MLC solution architecture is compliant with OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) specifications. This allows the smooth evolution of an application based on Locus A-MLC towards the advanced capabilities of enhanced location services such as A-GPS in the future.

High accuracy positioning of mobile subscribers

Locus A-MLC provides an enhanced Global Cell Identity (E-CGI) based location of the mobile subscriber in the GSM network (commonly referred to as GMLC + SMLC functionality). The system uses GSM standard compliant MAP version 3 Any Time Interrogation (ATI) and Provide Subscriber Information (PSI) procedures, to retrieve network location information. The system delivers accurate locations of mobile phones in both active and idle modes.

The E-CGI information is translated to the geographical co-ordinates of the subscriber, based on standard GSM network location information. Advanced probability models are used to form the most accurate estimate. GSM network load is highly optimised in location procedures to increase system performance and to ensure sufficient capacity of the critical network elements.

The system allows positioning of visiting subscribers based on existing voice and SMS roaming agreements, allowing high value services for tourists and visitors.

Easy to use standard API for applications

Locus A-MLC provides consistent and standards compliant XML API (OMA MLP protocol) to provide access to location information for application clients. The applications requesting location information are authenticated and provided with secure access. For user level privacy handling, Locus A-MLC provides full user privacy handling as an option. Alternatively, it can be implemented in Mobile Location Applications. The charging support allows storage of required usage information for the billing of Mobile Location Services and accounting between operators. A full integration to the operator billing system can be provided as an option.
